I was in a very bad accident two weeks ago with my three year old son. I got rear ended by a tractor trailer going 70 miles per hour. Thank God my son and I are pretty much ok. This car seat was fabulous. The air bags deployed and saved my son's life!!!!! Thank you, Maxi Cosi!!!! I would recommend this to any parent looking for a safe and reliable car seat. A little pricey, but it's worth it!!!!
I did so much research on car seats before I made my purchase. I opted for a convertible because I don't want to lug around a heavy car seat all of the time, and the convertible look so much more comfortable for the baby than the infant car seats! When we got this in I was genuinely shocked at the size of it though. It really is big - but for me that is a plus! I feel like my baby will be better protected if we are in an accident. We also live in the middle of no where so any time we will be in the car he will be in this seat for a minimum of an hour round trip - his comfort is what sold us on this particular model.
I never actually got to the point of using this car seat. I have a Nuna rava car seat and bought this one for a secondary vehicle, because the reviews compare this seat to that of the Nuna Rava, it was over $100 cheaper. I'm sure this is a great car seat and will protect your child just fine, but if you're looking for the ease, convenience, quality and luxury of the Nuna product, this is not the car seat for you. If you're debating between the Nuna Rava and this car seat, get the Nuna, it's worth it. The recline feature is on the side of the nuna, this recliner is on the back of the seat. The base on the nuna is a flat plate and substantial, the base on this is small plastic with marking parts. The nuna has leg extension. The fabric feels cheap on this seat too. This review is intended for anyone thinking of getting the Nuna Rava vs this seat. Get the Nuna, it's worth it.
My wife and I really wanted to love this seat. The look is great and our son sat in the seat almost perfectly and the fact that the higher weight rating meant he could stay in it longer was also an added bonus, but all of that comes 2nd to the fact that I could not get the seat to latch tight enough to prevent it from moving more less than a few inches side to side and believe me I'm almost 200 lbs and was laying on that seat to try and tighten it down but could not get it tight enough to prevent it from moving side to side. Not to mention that the seat angle could not be met without putting a rolled towel under the base of the car seat which to me seems cheesy. If the towel was removed the seat would actually lift and flip toward the seat back. which obviously would not be safe if we got rear ended since it would pin our son between his seat and the cars seatback. Another thing that struck a cord with us was the fabric that maxicosi uses, it's actually really poorly made. After only about two weeks of use the fabric was showing signs of wear from getting in and out of the seat. It was also de-threading in a couple of spots. All in all I rated the seat a 2 because it was a nice looking seat and had some great features but it just did not work out for us. I ended up going with the Chicco Nextfit myzip convertible and it's honestly a way better seat with way more adjustments to allow us to position our child and the seat to fit in our vehicles a lot better ensuring he is safer and more comfortable.
This car seat is huge! Took up a lot of space in the back of my compact suv. I liked that this car seat has a lot of cushion so it looks very comfortable. What I don’t like about this car seat is how big it looked in my car and the buckles. The magnetic clips were a plus for me but the buckles was difficult to get my son in and out. Very inconvenient definitely for everyday use. I had high hopes for this car seat and it was my first choice but I ended up going with the Graco 4ever car seat. It’s Much easier to use and has the same amount of cushion. It looks a lot smaller in my car too. In conclusion this car seat was just not for my family. I wouldn’t discourage anyone who is interested in it though. It has it pros and cons. Definitely a plus buying it through amazon with its amazing return policy. I would suggest watching videos before having the car seat. It helps better than reading the manual.
My son is so much more comfortable in this convertible car seat vs the evenflo I bought first. He evenflo does not recline enough! We loved the maxi Cosi infant car seat and now we love this one! He looks so comfy and his head does not flop forward when he sleeps like it did in the evenflo! The only negative is that snack at the top is tricky at first and it seems uncomfortable on the chest (my son rips the cushions off daily).
I bought this car seat because after my infant seat, I only wanted to buy one more car seat. The 85 lb weight limit was the only one I felt confident my son wouldn’t out grow. I really like the design and I feel like my son is very safe in this car seat. He has a lot of room to grow and seems comfortable. A huge selling point for me was the removable and washable cover. I’m trying to use this car seat for the long haul and you just never know what will get on it. My husband didn’t have any complaints about installation.
Very comfortable for the baby. He sleeps "like a baby" as soon as I put him in it (this did not happen with the infant car seat I used before (Uppababy Mesa). The clip is not difficult to use at all. The key is to follow the instructions, press and slide. I was concerned with it since many reviews said otherwise, however it seems some people did not read the instructions properly. If you do not press first it won't slide open. It is big, however, I do not see other car seats being any smaller really unless you need to fit 3 in a row, therefore in view of the aesthetics, I would purchase this one again. I like the cup holder as well.
