I have purchased three of these - why? We needed two - one for my husband and one for my car. I chose this seat after careful reviews and visits to the store to put my hands on it. I chose it for the safety features, the comfort and the ease of installation and use. I never imagined we would need to test the safety features - but like many parents, when choosing this seat I wanted to make sure my daughter was as safe as possible.
So again - why the third seat? Because the worst happened - our children were in a car wreck. While traveling home from a museum our sitter was involved in a four car wreck. The car they were traveling in was a Ford Excursion. The car was totaled following the wreck. The Evenflo Symphony did exactly what it was supposed to do - it kept our toddler in place, safe and injury free. Our little girl was the only one to come out of the wreck with no injuries.
Following the wreck, we followed the standard guidance that a car seat should never be reused following an accident. We threw the old seat away and purchased exactly the same car seat again as a replacement. I can't think of a better endorsement.
I hardly ever write a bad review but not after 1 but both have torn up I have to bring myself to write this. As a rear facing seat I think it is fine, baby does sweat even with vents on the ceiling of my vehicle. I have 1 for my traverse and the other for my Silverado. Both of them my 2.5 year old who is 32 pounds was able to break both of them. They have insulated headrest that is supposed to protect them in case of a impact and that is the part he was able to break himself with his little hands. It happened so fast as he climbed into his car seat he had his knees in the seat and grabbed the headrest and snap. You can tighten the straps all day long and he still manages to pull the chest piece down and remove his arm etc so by the time I have to pullover on a interstate he has broken another head rest with his hands. I purchased this car seat in 2017, so I have had the experience of what this car seat can and will not do. If a 2 year old can break safety features is it really safe?
I have been using the Evenflo Symphony car seat for a little over a year now and just decided to buy another one for our second vehicle. First, I want to share why we decided on this car seat. My wife and I have an amazing little boy, and always want to do the best we can for him. We had a removable car seat with a base but around 2 years of age, he was getting too big for it and we knew it was time to upgrade. We also had a 4000-mile road trip ahead of us and wanted to make sure our son would be comfortable sitting all that time. So my wife did a ton of research and found that this car seat was rated one of the top safest models from numerous sources and had great reviews on amazon. With that, we pulled the trigger during a lightning deal and got the car seat.
When we received the new car seat, we were pretty shocked how big it was. Compared to our old car seat, it was easily twice the foot print overall. Then we were surprised again when placed in the car, it honestly didn't take up much more room than the previous one. Our son was actually pretty excited about it and wanted to get in it. This made the car trip much easier as we never had a hard time getting him in.... ok maybe once or twice. The Symphony car seat is simple to install and maybe took 90 seconds to swap from one car to another, 50 seconds if I rushed. So that all being said, we decided to get another one (I kept forgetting it in my truck when I would go to work), and we could not be happier. While we enjoyed the carrier car seat that could be moved from car to car easily, we probably will go with the Symphony for our next child even during infancy (with the included infant cushion).
Pros: Safety ratings+ Quality seat Can be used for an infant Room to grow with plenty of adjustments 2 cup holders Hidden release so the child does not try and play with it. The cover can be easily removed for washing
Cons: Bigger than other car seats I have seen More expensive than some, but far from the most expensive Doesn't entertain my child during long drives (kidding, that would be cool tho)
In short: I would recommend this to anyone wanting the best for their kid. With amazing safety features, easy to install, and can use from infancy on up, it's a no brainer that I will keep using this car seat from now on.
