A crucial reference for any budget wanderer. "Time"
""
"Vagabonding" easily remains in my top-10 list of life-changing books. Why? Because one incredible trip, especially a long-term trip, can change your life forever. And "Vagabonding" teaches you how to travel (and think), not just for one trip, but for the rest of your life. Tim Ferriss, from the foreword
The book is a meditation on the joys of hitting the road. . . . It s also a primer for those with a case of pent-up wanderlust seeking to live the dream. "USA Today"
I couldn t put this book down. It s a whole different ethic of travel. . . . [Rolf Potts s] practical advice might just convince you to enjoy that open-ended trip of a lifetime. Rick Steves
Potts wants us to wander, to explore, to embrace the unknown, and, finally, to take our own damn time about it. I think this is the most sensible book of travel-related advice ever written. Tim Cahill, founding editor of "Outside""

This book is a fraud.

It contents mainly common sense tips, self help cheesy quotes, hundreds of examples of the same topic, just to fill more pages, when it's obvious whit one or two the author can make his point. You can find the same tips, quotes or "information" this books brings in the first google search.

Don't buy it, it's junk.

4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas A good primer for those interested in long-term travel 24 de abril de 2014

This is a pretty simple book, designed for those who have never traveled but always wanted to. By "travel" I'm referring to long-term, low-budget travel. This is definitely not intended for the independently wealthy or those who don't know how to function without all of the conveniences of home. Nor is meant for the person who has a couple of weeks off of work and just wants to get out of town. There are plenty of other books for people interested in those types of travel.

The author describes several different approaches to travel and refrains from passing judgment on any of them. He lays out the pros and cons of each style and lets you decide what's right for you. He provides dozens of resources and is continually adding to them on his website. Somehow, he passes on all of this information without making the book feel like a typical travel book.

I took six months off after college and traveled around the U.S. with my then-toddler son. Sustained travel can be difficult even in this country. When my son graduates high school, I plan to try long-term international travel. This book was a great jumping off point for me. I was surprisingly impressed.

This is a great, who suits better those who love traveling, I do. The author offers his perspective on the eyes from which he sees traveling, and how engages in the whole experience. Many of us may have been thinking for years about doing long term traveling and don't have the courage to do it because of money or work constraints, this book opens your mind to possibilities.

I've always wanted to live in Europe at least for a few months, do some traveling and learn French, and after reading this book I see it totally doable. I recommend the book!

Quick and easy read. Decided to read the Kindle version on my flight to Bangkok and changed my perspective of travel. Granted, "long term" traveling is not for everybody, but the author does a great job of highlighting the benefits of taking an unconventional approach to traveling (self-discovery, adaptation to different environments, increased self-confidence and resourcefulness, connection with other cultures). He goes a step further by suggesting that long-term travel is not as impossible of an endeavor as many would think; he recounts teaching in various countries to save up enough money to travel for a few months and returning to work when his funds were depleted. Throughout the book, he offers practical advice about finding inexpensive accommodations, food, and transportation while cautioning about scams and dangers that exist while navigating a foreign land. All in all, this book has inspired me to undertake more travels in the future and to maybe become a "vagabound" one day as well- once my student loans are paid off of course :).
4.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas Are you a vacationer or a traveler? 28 de abril de 2016

This book did an amazing job distinguishing the difference between people who take vacations and people who travel instead. A few of the websites are dated, but I still believe this book is a great place to start exploring the differences between vacationers and travelers, especially if you’re bored with the traditional vacation options and want a more meaningful vacation.

For me, vacations are not so much time to get away and relax, but more of a time to explore and have memorable and meaningful experiences in life.

This book does a fine job pointing out many do’s and don’ts when it comes to traveling, and it also introduces us to different attitudes to enhance our holiday experience. It’s one of those, “you don’t know what you don’t know.”

This book is one of those books, that you’ll say, wow I wish I would have read this years ago, but beware it might spoil your traditional vacation spots forever.

I've recommend this book to many friends who have looked for an inspiring and practical guide to long term travel. My wife and I read this before embarking on a multi-month backingpacking / camping trip through Europe, Turkey and Israel. The practical guidance goes beyond logistics which are important but also helps you understand the true spirit of travel and how to convert yourself from a travel consumer trying to hit as many sites as possible in a week or two time frame to a travel enthusiast who finds joy in even the smallest of experiences. This book transformed my wife and I for the better ant turned us into lifetime travelers.
