The box containing TIZO says it "enhances, protects & neutralizes free radicals." TIZO, distributed by medical professionals, provides a mineral sunscreen with Broad Spectrum UVB and UVA, SPF 40, achieved by the correct amount of zinc oxide. The manufacturer prepares the product with the precautions of pharmaceutical quality control. The product description says it best--designed to help repair, protect, and revitalize environmentally distressed and photo-damaged skin."
It doesn't cause pimples (non-comedogenic). The distributor's literature says it is free of oil; however, it has the kind of smoothness usually obtained by oil in skin products. It allows the skin to breath. It does not have preservatives. It leaves the skin feeling hydrated. It doesn't irritate. (At least it has not irritated my very sensitive skin.) It is to be applied "liberally fifteen minutes before sun exposure."
All of this information sounds clinical--like medicine for the face. These facts make it easy to understand why the product costs more than one might at first expect. It is something I apply to my face as though it is a medication, something with twenty-first century technology...a little tube of a rare scientifically developed product that makes me glad my face is alive in this era. It's not my grandmother's cold cream she smoothed on her face, which was covered with valleys of wrinkles. Even the rich Queen of Sheba or Queen Elizabeth I did not have this kind of luxurious care available. To sum it up it provides skin conditioning in "an unparalleled manner."
But there is more to the story. It's makeup! While it's helping prevent "future photo damage" and while it's addressing my skin's "tone and texture," it provides a matte finish so I don't look all shiny and it reduces the "appearance of fine lines and pore size." Most mature women have some fine lines--I know I do. I have the dubious blessing of fine pores and I don't need that help. However, some women say it has a blurring effect on pores. (Why is it having small pores a dubious blessing? All my life, my skin has been excessively dry.) A product like this has in the past clogged pours and caused pimples, but not TIZO!
The Brand Story on the product page boasts that it provides "uncompromised aesthetic elegance." In addition to long-range help with skin, it immediately evens the tone, plumps the skin, and provides a light application of makeup that will cause people to say naively, "You aren't wearing makeup and you look so young."
It is a great pore minimizer because it feels and looks like it has the same sort of 'blur' ingredients that several cosmetic brands feature now in their primers. In addition, it is very moisturizing - it feels absolutely silky going on. It does not even out skin tone. It moisturizes, minimizes the look of pores, and it provides sunscreen. It is NOT waterproof, so it's not a good option for wearing when swimming. It also has to be reapplied every 2 hours to provide the SPF 40 protection that it advertises.
While I have found products that work just as good as sunscreen, or pore minimizer, or moisturizer that are less expensive, I have not found one that does all 3. Also, it contains Ceramides, which are super nice for the skin. It's really rather unique in all that it does.
I love it. If I could afford it, I'd always keep it on hand. Even if I am not going out in the sun, I still love the blur factor and anti-aging properties it has.
However, as a primer it is amazing. It comes out slightly tinted, but smooths on to be invisible. It blends onto your skin so smoothly and makes the skin surface very silky and ready for makeup. I love that it is SPF 40 for great sun protection. And my makeup lasted SO much longer after applying it over this primer than without it. And after a few days of use, I actually saw a significant improvement in my skin's moisture and radiance. I am very happy with this product!
I will say that it does feel a little bit heavier than other primers I've used, which may bother some people, particularly if they don't wear makeup.
There are several silicones in this, which means it goes on silky and creates a smooth finish. It's also oil-free/non-comedegenic, and has ceramides (which strengthen the skin barrier) and Vitamins C and E in it (although neither the label nor the website lists the percentage of Vitamin C). It functions as a primer, which also saves one more step in the morning.
Great product -- but I wish it just came at a cheaper price point.
UPDATE ON 8/28/17: I emailed Tizo to ask about how much Vitamin C is in their product, and here is their response: "The Vitamin C in the AM Replenish is a Vitamin C ester and is less than 1%."
This does it all for the morning!
