It is beautifully written and you really feel for the key characters.
I found some parts of the book difficult to read but no more say than reading Yoda of Star Wars. These sections address another way of thinking. Yes, you have to concentrate a bit more but it is worth it and it is an integral element of the story.
I finished the book a few days ago and I keep thinking about it. I hope you too will enjoy this read.
Brilliantly written and fantastic to read.
Not a satisfying read at all
I would not recommend this book to anyone.
One star is too much
What I enjoyed most was the dual stories of earthly struggles compared with non-earthly struggles. The corporeal vs the spiritual, so to speak. That's all I'm saying about that because I don't do 'spoilers'.
Unique in the sense that it starts out with a baby being born who is quite unusual. Makes one want to keep reading as you wonder what is going on here, & who is this child.
I feel that the characters are believable and well developed. The story flows well and has enough twists & turns to keep it interesting...especially the later part of the story.
The question is, how open minded are you? If you're a reader who isn't able to accept life & death theories of what is going on in this world or what happens after we die - then you may find it hard to enjoy this book. If you're rigid in your spiritual or religious beliefs then you possibly may not like this story.
However, if you're a reader who is willing to look past your own beliefs and accept the fact that none of us know what's really going on then the story jumps to life and posits some new and old beliefs that are quite refreshing. And ideas that make sense. To me, it felt like truth. It felt very comfortable.
There was one thing I did not understand in the book. But I won't mention it here. Maybe once I've thought about it more, the answer will come to me. That didn't make the story any less amazing to me though.
I highly recommend this book to all - regardless of adult age, ethnicity or belief systems. Enjoy!
When I came across The One Apart and realized that it wasn't just a short story or even a series of short stories, but a full novel I was elated!
Knowing her style I was fully expecting to be whirled up and away into the plot and was not wrong. Avery once again delivers with masterful technique and style, digging deep into a psychological field trip.
The One Apart follows an ageless being, born again and again while retaining knowledge but no apparent history. He knows he is supposed to be doing something and it is urgent, but figuring out what exactly that is becomes the plot for this book. Born to a teenager recognizing something special in this babe, Tre the ageless child with the aid and protection of his newest mother is against the clock with a nefarious entity with ill intent to not only Tres but the world as known to us.
Definitely recommend The One Apart and any piece by Justine Avery, I have yet to be disappointed!
