Third Edition - 2014 UPDATE

This edition includes the latest news about a survey carried out in the Spring of 2013, which confirmed that gold was found in commercial quantities, just as I had said there would be. But then, just as a mining license was about to be signed, there was an extraordinary twist in the tail that nobody had foreseen. What was that? You will need to read the book to find out.

"A mineralogical thriller!"

What you are about to read is an extraordinary detective story about the gold mines of North Molton, where one hundred and fifty years ago extensive mining operations took place and where hundreds of people were employed.

During our investigation we will meet incredible people whose parents and grand-parents were involved in the mines and who tell extraordinary stories of what happened there. Conspiracies, intrigue, fraud and gold fever - it is all here and more. But what about the gold? Was gold ever found at the mines or were the tales of nuggets and reports of gold discoveries all part of an elaborate scheme designed to entice would-be investors to part with their money on false hopes of rich rewards. And if the stories of gold are true, what about today? Can we still find gold there now? A four day survey was carried out in 2013 and confirmed that commercial quantities of gold existed in the spoil heaps of the mines, but then...

The FOREWORD is written by Peter Stucley, the youngest son of Sir Hugh
Stucley and the Great grandson of George Wentworth Warwick Bampfylde, 4th Baron Poltimore (1882-1965).

Upon first reading my book he wrote and said, "You have done a really
marvellous job! It was a fascinating read. Over the last 30 years or so I have
gleaned various snippets of information from the family archives, but this is
the first time (that I am aware of) where somebody has pulled everything together in such a detailed and concise manner. It is a mineralogical thriller!"

Biografía del autor

Born in 1951 I am a British non-fiction author who enjoys investigating mysteries and writing about them. The greatest mystery of all is the question of life, the universe and everything, and it has been a lifelong passion for me. Throughout my life I have studied Religion, Palaeontology and the Life Sciences and as a result I can be classed as an Old Age Creationist. I am a keen student of the Bible and Archaeology, and I have studied many ancient writings, often in their original languages. I am also a keen researcher on Biology, Genetics, Theology, Mythology, Geology and the Supernatural, and often you will find in my books that they incorporate many of these sciences in their content. I have been involved in IT since 1983 and between 1990 - 1995 I was Technical Director of a PC manufacturing company. My particular interest though has been in software development and from 1997 - 2009 I was Software Development Manager for a major health and safety organisation. In 2003 I became the finalist for the Oscar like BCS awards for software excellence for the IT industry with a COSHH Mananagment System that I wrote for the company. As a consequence of my computer programming experience, I tend to apply logic and reason to any subject that I study and so my books are not based upon and preconceived ideas. I think what the famous long time atheist Antony Flew (1923-2010) said before he died having discovered God says it all, "I have followed the argument where it has led me. And it has led to accept the existence of a self-existent, immutable, immaterial, omnipotent, and omniscient Being."
