Descripción del producto

Descripción del producto

When a meteorite destroyed a house in a sleepy, English village, no one could have predicted the chain of events that would lead Swan Morrison and Helen Hargreaves to romance and would ultimately propel them into an epic battle for the very survival of mankind. How can one adequately describe a novel that is (in alphabetical order): an adventure filled; archaeological; comic; crime featuring; dramatic; erotic; espionage laced; horror tinged; political; religious; romantic; science fiction; supernatural thriller with philosophical, satirical and allegorical undertones? This affectionate tribute to many classic storylines is where the writers of the Archers meet the creators of Indiana Jones meet Dan Brown meet John le Carré meet E. L. James meet Stephen King meet Isaac Asimov meet Barbara Cartland meet Harold Robbins meet Colin Dexter meet Ian Fleming meet Woody Allen meet Douglas Adams – to name just a very few.

Basically, a fun read. However, the device used to successfully conclude the plot was too fantastical for me.

Swan Morrison has hit the ball out of the park with “Judgement Day.” I’m loath to give five stars to most writers (even if they have published my humor pieces), but this book is exceptional for its fictional invention, which are kicks to the eyeballs.

We’re introduced to the archaeologist neighbor who won’t share what’s hidden “in the book” before an asteroid obliterates him. Then it’s a race among our man Swan, a cabal of Anglican bishops and vicars, MI5 and the CIA, a pot-cultivating sheep rancher, some renegade military types with the launch code, and another onrushing asteroid that will obliterate earth. Morrison has created a mash-up of genres: spy novel, science fiction, and thriller that takes us cruising around the world (once in a 30-minute trip from Area 51 to London in an invisible airplane). Surprisingly, the formula works

But to dismiss “Judgement Day” as a boiled pot of plot twists is like saying “The Big Lebowski” is the story of a bowling team. It’s more akin to Ian Fleming’s James Bond on hallucinogens or a “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” with no brakes on the rocket ship. Dan Brown’s “DaVinci Code” was a pedestrian exercise in conspiracy compared to the machinations cooked up by the religious extremists here who will go to every length to ensure Apocalypse, even to anointing self-same author and hero Swan Morrison as the divine harbinger of End Times.

Read this book if no other reason than to stretch your imagination and get a good laugh. It moves quickly through 134 short chapters. Or else turn on the TV and watch drivel. A new series of drivel will probably be on at 8:00 p.m.
