Descripción del producto

"An eleven-year-old girl and boy live in an isolated village with 258 other citizens. Nobody has a name, and everything is calculated to break their spirits so that they surrender to an existence of gray routine.
"But they have each other. They each have a passion: music and art. And a mysterious force is guiding them and protecting them.
"When the savagery of those in control finally transforms the girl, the boy must help her find herself again. The path is an amazing journey through which they discover the depths of their humanity and a startling method to shake the village at its roots. Perhaps they can shift the world toward happiness.
"Escape from the Village is an homage to true friendship which can sustain the human spirit even against physical and spiritual torture. It is a touching love story like no other."
   --Wendy McElroy

She draws the pictures. He makes the music. They both share a big secret.
There is no music or art in the village where a pre-adolescent boy and girl live. They go to a mysterious house where they make music and art, while other citizens can not go there. Their creativity separates them from their peers in many ways. They will soon discover that there is much more being kept from them.
Take the grim dystopia of the Hunger Games and combine it with the charm of Moonrise Kingdom--the result is Escape from the Village.

This is the inevitable and horrifying direction our society is going with the "safety" nannies. Those who trade their liberty for "security" deserve neither, and will not have either one. I can't wait for the sequels. The story doesn't end with this book.

It is not the kind of book I usually read. I bought it because I know the author. I found it to be an interesting read and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Interesting and entertaining.

I was given a copy of this book to review, and it has been an interesting adventure. It started out very slowly for me, but the very pedantic, measured pace truly set the tone for this seductively scary story. While dystopian fiction is becoming more prevalent, I think, as we teeter on the brink of both sociological and technological boundaries, few start with the results of control gone to its logical end and work backward.

The story is told in the alternating voices of a boy and girl generated from test tube fertilization and segregated from all normal family life. They know nothing else. And yet . . . and yet, in the midst of all the efforts to remove any differences or conflict, the human spirit peeks out from the darkness and grows into a loving flame.

The story also explores how very much the human person depends on others to nourish and challenge him to grow and develop. The adults in the story raise other questions and could provide a fascinating prequel to Escape From the Village. The matter-of-fact bare bones description of what led to the Villages is chilling in itself.

One of the most striking things, to me, was the importance and power of a name. The story ends as a beginning. With two who are no longer ciphers, but unique and uniquely named just beginning to discover not only who they are, but whom they may become, it demands a sequel.

What happens when children grow up without friends, family, art, music and any choices. This is a very futuristic look at what happens when a socialism runs wild, Both scary and warm n fuzzy. I liked it.

This was given to me by a friend to read and I'm pretty sure she hates me. She is into the whole YA thing and she admitted she didn't love it but thought it was okay. I would disagree and say it was a just plain bad. That's how it felt too, plain no color, none of the characters came alive for the reader. This book was stiff, no flow at all. It felt clunky and painful.
For people who complain about people who write bad reviews without finishing, you are an idiot. You wouldn't eat take a bite of a burned burger and wait until you finished it to complain it wasn't good.
