After hours of reading reviews on Amazon, I bought the Dirt Devil Express Compact Bagged Canister. I'M SO GLAD I DID. I have only used it once, but I love it already. I live in a one bedroom, 700 square foot apartment in NYC with wood floors and a couple of area rugs. The vacuum really sucks up dirt, lint, and dust bunnies from under furniture, and does a very impressive job on the rugs! I immediately ditched my bagless upright, which is disgusting to clean (can someone please tell me what the point of a bagless vacuum is besides giving people allergy attacks?) It's lightweight and easy to handle. And really, you can't beat the price for a 12 amp motor. I rarely write product reviews, but I felt I just had to share my experience!

5.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas great little machine! 29 de febrero de 2012

I bought this item two weeks ago and started using it on the same day it arrived.
In order to buy the right item, one should define his/her needs well. After defining what kind of machine would do the needed work, then it is easy to select among thousands of products.
I needed a small but powerful, efficient and easy to maintain vacuum cleaner with apparatus.

I can group its advantages under three articles.

1. Size
Its a small and lightweight canister vacuum.

2. Powerful
It has 12 amp power. This is unique in this price range!

It has
* HEPA Filter. This feature is also unique in this price range!
HEPA filters remove 99.97% of all particles greater than 0.3 micrometer from the air that passes through. So, in the long term dustiness in the house will tend to decrease. Even, after two weeks of usage, I've already observed that dustiness is decreased a lot.
* Telescopic Handle. And it is metal, not plastic!! which helps durability in long term.
* Suction Power Control. You can adjust suction power for cleaning little souvenirs on the counter using related brush tool.
* Automatic Cord Rewind. It is very useful.
* Included accessories : Upholstery Brush, Furniture Brush, Crevice tool. You can use these tools in adjusting different surfaces
* Full Bag Indicator. It is bagged. Yes, you should buy new bags in time but in terms of sanitary concerns bagged versions are better than bagless. When it is full, just change the bag and you are done. It is very easy to change bags.

I am living in a studio and so far, I am very satisfied with using this machine.

1.0 de un máximo de 5 estrellas overheats too easily, broke after 9 months 20 de agosto de 2012

I am rather disappointed with this vacuum. My house is only 1400 sqft in size yet I cannot finish vacuuming the whole house with this vacuum. It consistently overheats and shuts down when I am about 2/3 of the way through. Eventually, the vacuum will cool down enough and start up again. I always push the on/off switch to turn it off when it overheats but there is no way to know whether or not it is indeed turned off. So remember to unplug the vacuum if it overheats, otherwise it will turn on by itself, which is not something you want if you have gone out. This vacuum is also very noisy. As a result, the rest of the family usually leaves the room that I am vacuuming. Suction is not great but sufficient for my laminate floors. I do like the telescoping wand, the cord rewind button, and how light the vacuum is. However, I will be keeping an eye out for a vacuum that will allow me to finish cleaning in one sitting.

Update 2/7/2013:
I am downgrading my rating for this vacuum from 2 to 1 star. The vacuum switch is broken and the vacuum will no longer start. I could look into the product warranty and perhaps this will be covered... but I disliked using this vacuum so much that I'm just going to chuck it and buy a new one. What a disappointment!

So I have that expensive top-of-the-line upright Dyson as well as a hand-held Black & Decker. Both do very well with the jobs they are designed for so I really do know something about how these contraptions are supposed to work and what they are used for.

I had been looking for something to do the edges, between stuff, under stuff, and furniture crevices that seem to collect a never-ending supply of dirt. I have no problems with the center of the room! I spent 4 months looking at every brand, style, feature and especially the reviews. The reviews for this one were certainly not perfect.....but HELLO? Why are you trying to use this for the whole house? Of course it will under-perform for that....and you will be tired. Very, very tired.

Even after purchasing the (did I say expensive) Dyson, I still kept the Kenmore upright so I could use the hose part to do the edges! Especially in the garage. (ok, so other people use the garage for a car. I do not) Here is what I love so far:

- Lightweight
- Rolls and pulls easily - wheels on bottom and on side so take your pick.
- LOTS of tools. A funny story though. I thought there was no crevice tool that was promised. I found it! It's tucked into a cavity on the machine itself - handy!
- Great design that crevice tool: Short so it does not have a long flat place to get clogged and FLIP-TOP to create a crevice tool with stiff brush to scrape the corners (Ok - so my house is dirty right now...I've been busy looking for a vacuum!) I love this tool - it really works!
- 12amps - great power for the price and higher than most at the same price
- Red (I really love red. I have two cars that are red.....
- lousy tool holder that connects to the hose (you can't win them all)
- METAL solid arm so you can actually stand up and vacuum those corners
- ratcheted metal solid arm so it can be extended on the fly (look out for those plastic ones that come apart)
- one touch cord rewind. (the luxury feature) Sucks it right up - no wrapping, pulling, unknotting or tripping over!
- bagged. (size AB since they do not tell you that in the ad) This is my preference I suppose, but when the trend changed to cyclone and bagless, I got pretty sick of cleaning the inside of my vacuum! As long as there is plenty of power (and this one has it) disposable bags are wonderful. As for the difficulty finding the bag as one person said? At 7-11 maybe, but I have found these in most places, however cheaper on Amazon as an add-on. The bag capacity is good too since you are now convinced not to try to use this for a 2400 square foot house, right?
- And since no-one seemed to be clear in their advertising, I had to look at the stores. This one does has a crevice tool that WILL attach to the end of the solid extensions. Beware - some do not so you are left bending over to use the crevice tool on the end of a flexible hose (just like with an upright). I really like a crevice tool at the end of the solid "wand." Did I tell you I like doing the edges?

I will be back to tell you more after I use it my second day............

Not sure if this is a 2 or a 3. This product is small and the bags are very small. Plus they are akward to replace. Part of this is my fault as I didn't realize how small it is and my plan was to use it for vacuuming tile and furniture. Does have good suction; however, now the on/off switch broke. Called DD. I bought this in May and they show the warranty was up two months ago which means, I assume, it was sitting in the Amazon warehouse. Now I have to print the invoice to prove I bought it in May and take it about 25 miles to a repair center. But D.D. advised my to call the service center first. Why???? She also suggested I contact Amazon if the service center couldn't repair it. Why? It was $64 so if I can't get it repaired, I will just toss and that is the end of my buying any DD product.

I ended up contacting Amazon and they gave me a return label for a credit. thank you Amazon. I wish DD was as helpful.
