Poetry. Christine Gelineau's CRAVE her third full-length volume of poetry, provides the hard evidence of the world as it is, while bearing witness to the more we crave. These poems range widely in topic, tone, and mode, responding to travels and headlines, but rooting themselves most firmly in Gelineau's life on an upstate New York horse farm, raising foals, living among other-than- human animals, cultivating a large organic garden, all of which informs the sense these poems evoke of the human embedded in the wider world, for better and for worse. In this book, languagethat most human of constructsbears the impress of the longing for the whole and the holy.

Another Beautiful Collection!

I've been a fan of Gelineau's poetry since I picked up a copy of Remorseless Loyalty, and last year, I was lucky enough to hear her read in NYC. When I found out she published a new book, I ordered it immediately, and I'm pleased to say, her writing is as lovely as ever. I have Crave on my nightstand, so I can read it again and again.

One of my favorite poets, I was immediately intrigued by her third book of poems, based on its title alone. "Crave" showcases all of what makes Gelineau one of our top contemporary poets: these poems are an homage to the music of the everyday, its heartbreak, our steadfastness, our survival. I love her reverent regard for the animals who live among us, in particular horses, and how she makes special the everyday acts of such things as growing your own good food. There is such grace in Gelineau's poems, whether it be a poem about a special trip taken after a long marriage, or an elegy for an uncle who survived the concentration camps only to be felled by a criminal act years later. Shining through all of these fine poems is a reverence for what makes us human.
