I waited 15 days about this. But within 15 seconds of arriving, I was completely disappointed.
Sound quality has not increased any more. As well as volume.
Boom Button is Completely distorting the bass effect!
I returned it immediately without even thinking a little.
Items I Used : Brainwavz HM5 Headphones with Iphone 5s.
I also did a test with Fiio X1. But result is Same.
I like to cuddle up with it in bed, watching movies, until I'm ready to doze off. I favor earphones since I like the intimacy of the sound.
About a month or two ago, my Kindle Fire showed signs of impending battery failure. It began to drain much faster than in the past and became very warm to the touch. All rechargeable batteries give out so I was more or less, expecting this issue at some point.
I ordered a replacement Kindle Fire 7 (7th generation) on Thanksgiving Day. I wasn't even thinking about bargain days.
I was delighted to see the Kindle on sale for $29.95 Now that's a bargain. When my new Kindle arrived I was disappointed by several rude discoveries. First, the original screen had an aspect ratio of 16:10. The new screen has a ratio of 16:9. This translates into about 10% less screen real estate.
My main frustration however, is that the earphone volume on the new Kindle is almost worthless. The volume is so anemic that the product is close to defective right out of the box. My earlier Kindle has perfectly adequate volume. What happened to ruin this feature?
So now the Kindle has very poor volume. I did some Google research and found others also had issues with the volume on the latest Kindles.
For this reason I went looking for a hardware solution and settles on the BoomStick since it's $10 price seemed a small price to pay for a possible solution. Well, it IS the solution. Using this device my Kindle Fire volume is now completely adequate and similar to the levels of my earlier Kindle. In short, it works. But, there are other issues. The device comes with a 5 inch USB cord for charging. The micro-USB port on the device is tight and I suspect it will break with repeated insertions for recharging. I have decided to leave it permanently attached to my booster since the 5 inch cord in fairly unobtrusive. When I turned the device on I was pleasantly surprised by the dramatic improvement it made in my Kindle sound. On the other hand, I was dismayed by it's bright, bright, white LED power indicator. It's very distracting when trying to view movies in subdued light. I solved the problem with a bit of black electrical tape over the light. I'm also concerned about the power switch on the side. It's tiny and feels extremely frail. I expect it to fail within months. Still, the device makes my Kindle usable now, and at $10 I won't complain about durability.
As for how it sounds, I estimate that it produces about 5 db of overall gain, and a slight boost of perhaps 2 db more at he bass and treble end. Both are welcome. I may get around to attaching it to my Kindle with Velcro tape in back.
The ideal solution of course, is for Amazon to restore a more usable volume on the Kindle. In the meantime, the BoomStick is a practical workaround.
Now comes the sad part. I had this shipped to my friend who handed it to me during my last trip to the US. Now, I'm back home in the Philippines. Yes, I can return it and file an RMA, but at this point, it's just going to be too much trouble and costly on my part.
Oh, and yes, I was able to test it when it powered on while the USB cable was plugged. To tell you the truth, the "Boost" was incredibly underwhelming. Dead battery aside, this is not a product that I would recommend.
As far as quality, there's more boost to the mids, with my untrained ear anyway. The boom reinforces the bass nicely and I actually end up turning my headphone volume down to enjoy the range more but the hiss I mentioned earlier is noticable in quieter songs and will be noticeable to better tuned ears.
